Charter of Aged Care Rights
Your Rights in Aged Care
Receiving care should be simple and safe. Under the Aged Care Act 2024, every person receiving aged care services in Australia has rights, set out in the Charter of Aged Care Rights.
You have the right to:
- Make choices about your care and services.
- Be treated with dignity, respect, and fairness.
- Participate in decisions about your care.
- Raise concerns or complaints if your care does not meet expected standards.
If something doesn’t feel right about your care, please let us know. Our team is here to listen, understand, and help resolve any issues.
Statement of Rights
The Aged Care Act 2024 includes a Statement of Rights that explains the rights older people will have when accessing aged care services funded by the Australian Government.

It’s important to understand your rights when it comes to aged care service delivery.
The Charter of Aged Care Rights protects your rights as a consumer of Australian Government funded aged care services. The video below explains in full the rights and responsibilities of those receiving aged care, as well as what they can expect under the Charter of Aged Care Rights.
